Inflation Reduction Act and HVAC Incentives

2022 Inflation Reduction Act

The Inflation Reduction Act was signed into law on August 16, 2022. The intent of the act is to invest in energy efficiency and reduce harmful emissions. This program will assist homeowners with incentives to make these improvements to their homes over time.

These incentives are in addition to any available state incentive rebate programs. So lets take a look at the programs.

25C Tax Credits

This tax credit expired December 31, 2021 but has been extended through December 31, 2022 with the same requirements.

Energy Efficient Planet

Though beginning January 1, 2023 and extending through December 31/2032 new tax credits will be available for homeowners. By installing qualifying Energy Star HVAC equipment homeowner will benefit from the incentives.

These tax credits will be allowable up to 30% of eligible equipment or up to $600.00 per appliance and $1200.00 per year (up from 10% per appliance and $500.00 lifetime) and up to $2000.00 per year for qualifying high efficiency heat pumps.

For Highest efficiency HVAC Equipment:

  • Up to $600.00 tax credit for Air Conditioners
  • Up to $2000.00 tax credit for Heat Pumps
  • Up to $600.00 tax credit for Gas Furnaces and Boilers
  • Up to $50.00 for advance circulating fans which use no more than 2% of the furnace’s total energy

These credits are claimed by the homeowner through their tax filing.

High Efficiency Electric Home Rebate Act (HEEHRA)

These HEEHRA benefits for eligible households are administered through the State and may provide up to 100% (or $8000.00) for conversion to Energy Star electric heat pump systems. This program extends through September 30, 2031.

For highest efficiency HVAC Equipment:

  • Up to $8000.00 for Electric Heat Pump Systems
  • Up to $4000.00 for electric load service center
  • Up to $2500.00 for electric wiring replacement
  • Up to maximum $14000.00 for all improvements
